What FileCheck checks
Know what the file check covers before you upload.
FileCheck is a browser-based CSV checker for CPSC Product Registry files. It catches a defined set of common file defects before you begin the upload process; it does not replace your review of the records or the CPSC workflow.
Current coverage
- CSV structure: unclosed quotes, blank or repeated headers, inconsistent row widths, and duplicate product/version pairs.
- Covered headers and values, including manufacturer identifiers and first-lab fields.
- Allowed field options, date formats and real calendar dates, key length limits, and related field requirements.
- Lab identity related fields, component-testing fields, point-of-contact related fields, and CSV-safe field values.
What still needs your review
- Whether a product requires a GCC, CPC, testing, a particular citation, or a Product Registry entry.
- Whether a test report, laboratory, certificate, product classification, or party record is accurate or sufficient.
- Submission to CPSC, customs filing, broker handoff, legal advice, or a guarantee that CPSC will accept a file.
